Friend, if you have embraced the gospel that is currently accepted as orthodoxy by millions of professing Christians, you could be resting your eternity on the lying promise.
Doctrinally speaking, contemporary, Christianity tends to believe that false teaching is "out there"-outside of the church. We spend a lot of time, effort and money refuting and critiquing the "cults"-not that such a course is bad or unnecessary. We are (I believe) out of balance, however, in terms of where we place the emphasis regarding time spent with the doctrinal magnifying glass.
I am convinced that false teaching is much closer to home. It is within the Christian church. It is dressed-up, disguised and even Christianized. Friend, read The Lying Promise and see if you don't agree.
The Lying Promise is a book questioning and refuting some of the most popular teaching and teachers of our age. The book examines and conclusively refutes the teaching of Drs. Erwin W. Lutzer, Charles R. (Chuck) Swindoll and Anthony T. (Tony) Evans. The Lying Promise is 408 pages long. It has five parts, three appendices, a bibliography and two indices. The five parts of the book are as follows:
Part one includes two introductory chapters which lay a foundation for and answer many common questions about the succeeding three parts. Parts two, three and four dedicate four chapters each to examining and refuting the teaching of Drs. Lutzer, Swindoll and Evans. Part five, with its three concluding chapters sheds light on common errors as well as sums up the book.
